I worked for Stoddard for 8 years, right up until they closed the last factory at Kilmarnock. It’s good to see you guys cataloguing all the designs. It’d be really great if you could put it all online – but i know that’s unlikely as it’s an awful lot of designs and other content…would take forever.

    Hi Steven,

We are working to digitise as many of the designs as possible (although, as you say, we won’t be able to do them all) and these can be seen on our Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uofglibrary/sets/72157625472336767/

Thanks for stopping by our blog – it’s great to hear from a former employee!
    Kim.

I worked for BMK and laterly Stoddarts for 14 years. I started off as Staff Photographer, working out of the Design Room in Kilmarnock. The photograph of the Hilton Ballroom rug was one of many I took. The Shot was taken from the roof of one of the mills with the Carpet layed out on the Thisltex Car Park in Kilmarnock. The rug ,shown in the picture without it’s borders sewen on and I think from memory was one of several in that ballroom. The gentleman in the black suit standing on the middle of the rug is either Bill MacDonald or Ian Michie, can’t quite remember which one it was. It was a few years ago afterall.

Great to see you are preserving all this heritage for future generations. Good work.

    Kinmd regards
